SEMNE Success in Connecticut!

On Wednesday, May 2, 2007, search marketers and others from all over New England and New York gathered at the Tumblebrook Country Club in Bloomfield, CT for a night of networking, exchanging of ideas, and learning.

The night began with a round of drinks provided by eVision, as well as a delicious full buffet partially sponsored by Hochman Consultants. Lively conversation ensued as people exchanged search marketing ideas and business cards.

Halfway through the evening, it was time learn about blogging and search marketing from Backbone Media’s Stephen Turcotte. Stephen discussed how blogging was very much like an in-person networking event; you sit at table with some people and listen to what they have to say. You may think, “Hey, hey! That guy/gal knows what they’re talking about,” and you later end up telling others you know about the conversation.

With blogging, you may read through a bunch of other blogs or online articles and like (or dislike) what you’ve read, and again want to tell others about it in your blog. The “trick” to a successful blog is to put your own spin on things by being honest and authentic. Stephen recommends that for corporate blogs you should always have real people from your company be the ones posting.

At the end of the evening, many questions ensued, but eventually the country club needed to start breaking down the room and we had to leave for the night. However, a few of us continued the conversation at the bar in the Simsbury Inn nearby.

All in all, it was truly another successful SEMNE event, with everyone looking forward to the next one in Providence, RI, which will feature Dan Crow from Google discussing how to get your tricky pages (like Flash) into their index and getting traffic! Details of this event will be coming soon, so be sure to check the SEMNE site and/or sign up for SEMNE Alerts.
